Edward James Olmos is an American actor, director, producer and activist. He is best known for his roles as Lieutenant Martin "Marty" Castillo in Miami Vice, actor and director of American Me, William Adama in the reimagined Battlestar Galactica, Professor Jaime Escalante of Stand and Deliver, and Detective Gaff in Blade Runner, and his sequel is Blade Runner 2049. In 2018, he played the father of two outlaw motorcycle club members in the Mayans MC FX series. With his work at Miami Vice, Olmos won the 1985 Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series, as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor - Movie, Miniseries or TV Series. For her performance in Stand and Deliver, Olmos was nominated for the Golden Globe Award and the Oscar for Best Actor for a Leading Role.
